Atreyo Banerjee
Atreyo is a lawyer and consultant holding undergraduate and post graduate degrees in law from the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences and the Azim Premji University, respectively. Previously, while working at law firms, Atreyo practised civil and commercial laws and represented corporations, financial institutions and high net worth individuals across courts, tribunals and sectoral regulators in India. He also has extensive environmental litigation experience having represented clients before the National Green Tribunal. Other than that, Atreyo has worked closely with clients in criminal investigations before authorities such as the Serious Fraud Investigation Office and the Directorate of Enforcement.
Atreyo’s experience as a litigator, and his passion for social justice informs the foundations of his research interests. Presently, Atreyo critically examines questions and laws around ecological catastrophe, citizenship and statelessness, and investigates the intersectional exploitation taking place within these sites. He also believes that well-formulated, sensitive and inclusive policies around climate change have the potential to create a resilient future and is enthusiastic about bridging the gap between the making and implementation of public policies. His association with the project is motivated by this.
Atreyo also likes to think of himself as an amateur athlete and dips his feet willingly in all sorts of sports. For him, moving the body keeps the mind young, and he hopes someday to build a library overlooking a football field.
